Staghorn Sumac –Rhus hirta (12-24″)
Zones 3-9: Easily grown in a wide range of soils as long as they are well-drained, and full sun to part shade. Generally tolerant of urban conditions and drought. Year-round interest with showy white blooms in spring that give way to red berries in fall and winter. Great wildlife shrub – seeds and fruits are eaten by grouse, songbirds and mammals, deer and moose browse the leaves and twigs and rabbits eat the bark and twigs, especially in winter. Also attracts pollinators!
