Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) or Red Milkweed is a deer-resistant plant that grows best in moist to moderate soils, and blooms with pink flowers for about a month mid-summer. Later, large pods form which will break open to reveal seeds that will float away in the wind. This plant can reach 4 feet tall.  Prefers full sun to partial shade, medium to wet soil and will grow in muck, clay, loam or sand.

In addition to providing nectar for butterflies, moths, and pollinators, Swamp Milkweed serves as a host plant for Monarch butterfly caterpillars and other beneficial insects. It is used by hummingbirds, and the fibers from stems are sought by Northern Orioles and many other birds as nest material. A flat will include 38 individual plants.
